One Night in January - now available

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a writer.

Today, I can assert with a bit more authority, that I am one.

Maybe it's a small thing, a pamphlet of poems. But for me, it represents something much bigger.

I cannot thank Tracey and Phil at Wild Pressed Books enough for believing in my work and for making this dream of mine a reality.

One Night in January is a love story, the exploration of a fleeting meeting and its aftermath. I probably couldn't have written these poems outside of lockdown. The quiet days in solitude gave rise to an intensity in my writing routine and allowed me to focus on these poems in a way I haven't had the chance to in a very long time.

I spent hours sat in my bedroom staring out of the windows, thinking about the icy winter we'd just emerged from. I read the work of poets such as Cameron Awkward Rich, Christel Wiinblad, Adrienne Rich and Carol Anne Duffy. I took myself back to Iceland as I scrolled through images from my January trip. I listened to music constantly.

Somehow, out of all of this, I finally found a story to tell. I really hope you enjoy the poems. You can order them here

Here is a taste of two of the poems. If you'd like to hear more, please do join me for a free launch event on 28 January with the wonderful Beth O'Brian, whose new collection I Left The Room Burning is out in February.
