You may recall that I reviewed the spectacular La Soirée a few weeks ago. I was lucky enough to have a chance to interview one of the aerial artists, Yammel Rodriguez (pictured above).
I discovered Cabaret shows in 2012 when I was only practicing Circus techniques in Canada, not knowing exactly which direction to take. I saw La Soiree in an arts festival in Montreal and automatically I thought, “This is it.” It was a complete discovery of what I wanted to devote myself to.
What is the most challenging part of your act?
Keeping the hat in the right place.
Are there any performers who have particularly inspired you?
Yes! Well in first place … Madonna is my biggest inspiration as an artist! In the dance world, Svetlana Zakharova has been another great inspiration! In circus, well, Hugo Desmerais was my favourite video to watch online for the longest time and I’m so lucky to even have him as a friend and colleague.
What can audiences expect from La Soiree; do you have any surprises up your sleeves?
I think audiences can expect only the best … but, at the same time, I would say audiences shouldn’t settle for mere expectation. They should enjoy the whole ride into La Soiree’s world, where anything can happen.
What is the best thing about performing in La Soiree?
That it is a complete dream come true!
